Luke Simmons and His Blue Mountain
Boys came to New Zealand and recorded a lot of stuff with
Noel Peach at Astor Studios. All material was released on the TANZA
label. The group consisted of the Three Canadians Luke Simmons, Vic
Crane Acoustic Bass, Clarence LeVesque Fiddle.
The interesting thing was that in NZ they were joined by local musicians
Ray Gunter on Lead Guitar, Lloyd Sly, Piano Accordian and Bill Sevesi, who
had to adapt his normal Hawaiian style of Steel Guitar to the Country
Style.
All this in 1953.
I understand Luke Simmons continued entertaining into the Rock and roll
era with the more upbeat style of country at the time.
